Quotes from Presenters:
Stewart Stern, Presenter: The Nell Shipman Career Achievement Award 2006 to Bonnie Bedelia:
In the wake of the excitement of the Women in Film evening, I want to say again how much I appreciated not only the concerted
work of all the staff, volunteers and well-wishers who made it happen, but the FEELING of the event that made it such a
privilege to be there.
As a male film-maker I felt truly welcomed and drawn into the love and appreciation that stuffed that room and it made me
proud to have been a writer of women: I think you have to almost turn into one to write one and I feel lucky that women have
responded to my women as though I had. I really meant what I said about your event being "better" than the big, noisy,
commercial ones that so many Hollywood awards ceremonies have had to become under the pressure of television and ratings and
having to put on a circus - and it reminded me wistfully of a time I was too young to have experienced myself when the
Academy Awards were a "family dinner" in the ballroom of the Ambassador Hotel. I WAS old enough to experience the ones at the
old Pantages, where Mae West and Rock Hudson sang an unforgettable duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and I remember watching
Joanne Woodward getting ready to go there, sitting at her sewing machine making the lovely green ball gown herself in which
she was about to receive her Best Actress award for The Three Faces of Eve. Joan Crawford was livid about that, and had
plenty to say about it over the next few days: "A gown for an occasion like that being home-made? The NERVE of some people!"
Brava, Joanne - then and now!
To you, too, Virginia, and all those wildly talented cohorts of your gender, who can not only make movies, but can also make
little boys who grow up to write them too.
Fondly,
Stewart Stern
What a fabulous evening! A big, beautiful room filled with gorgeous and groovy film-smart chicks... it doesn't get much
better than that!Nancy Guppy, Seattle Channel
Presenter, "Best Student Film"
"The Nell Shipman Awards ceremony was a magical evening and I am honored to have been a presenter. From the formal attire to the spirit and energy of the room, it was by all accounts a success."
James Keblas, Director Mayor's Office of Film and Music City of Seattle
Presenter, "Best Feature Film"
What a wonderful evening! So elegant and grand! It was just like the Oscars but so much better because it was all about Northwest women filmmakers. Who knew there was so much talent right here in our own backyard? What a wonderful inspiration to all of us who aspire to put our work on film and a special thanks to Mark MacDonald and his terrific crew at Victory Studios for putting together a first class video presentation. How lucky we are to have them in Seattle.
Speaking for all of the women who worked on our recent film project MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE I would like to say to "Women In Film"...BRAVO!

An evening to be remembered: The spirit and class of this year's Nell Shipman awards compelled my heart to deeply and truly appreciate the divine, ineffable talents and creative ingenuity of women film makers. This spirited celebration was filled with awe, joy, intrigue and passion as today's emerging film makers take their rightful place center stage. Thank you Virginia Bogert and the "Academy " for an evening to be remembered.

Quotes from Award Recipients
"The Nell Shipman Awards night was a glamorous evening and a chance to network with the other amazing women in Seattle, there was a wonderful feeling of camaraderie and the after parties were a blast. It was an honor to be included among the fantastic nominees at the WIF Nell Shipman Awards. All Women in the film industry in Seattle should not wait and join WIF, be a part, submit their work and support other women in the film industry."
Sue Corcoran, Director
Winner of Best Short Film: Circus of Infinity
"Standing on the stage next to Francine Strickwerda (producer of "Busting Out") as we both received the Nell Shipman Production Excellence Award for Best Documentary was a career highlight for me. The fact that both our films were inspired by our own mothers' tragic illnesses (breast cancer in her case; Alzheimer's in mine) made it especially poignant to be recognized by an organization devoted to women in film. I felt proud to be in a room so full of talented women. And I felt incredibly grateful that women filmmakers in the Northwest have an organization that supports us in so many ways, not the least of which is the camaraderie of an evening like the 2006 Nell Shipman Awards."

I enjoyed the black tie event. Its fun to get dressed up like that in Seattle. I felt like I was among friends once on stage. I felt supported. I ran into people who I have crossed paths with from the Seattle International Film Festival, Freehold Theater Lab, and film's that I have worked on, so it was also a little like a reunion.
Wendy Ashford
Winner: Production Excellence as Lead Actress
I want to thank you all for the lovely evening. I know it was a struggle to create such a wonderful event while trying to do your work and keep your personal lives afloat! I can say with confidence that it was appreciated by all who attended. I know that all the women without exception gave their all. It is a real testament to women that we can create something so grand out of nothing and still keep our grace and dignity as well. I am also honored to have helped in my small way to create this evening. I believe that it was well worth the struggle.
As a production excellence awardee, I would like to say that I am truly honored to hold this award, twice now! The award itself is grand! am very happy with it and am thinking to build a little shrine at my studio for it to reside in. We all work so hard at our arts and even though it is our hearts work, it just puts the cherry on the top to be recognized like this.
My deepest thanks to each and every one of you.
