WIF Seattle Invites Members to Join Committees
Communications
If writing, Marketing, and Public Relations are among your strengths, the Communications Committee Chair is for you: working to reach out to the membership base with member emails about upcoming events & WIF news. Have a hand in making Women in Film-Seattle the organization everyone’s talking about by becoming part of this fast-paced committee directly affecting the growth of WIF-S.
Fundraising
As WIF-Seattle grows by leaps and bounds and the Seattle film, television, and new media industries prosper, our challenge is securing the funds needed to sustain the growth our members and the community deserve and support. As a worthy non-profit organization, WIF-S is seeking people with knowledge of corporate sponsorship, fundraising, and grant writing to become involved the growth process by joining the Fundraising Committee. Please contact Vice President Barbara Brown for more information. msbab@comcast.net
Membership
Nothing is more vital to an organization’s success than the involvement of its members and the growth of the membership base itself! The more members WIF-Seattle boasts, the more we are able to accomplish as an organization and the richer the benefits to those who belong. We’d welcome your capable help in our efforts to grow WIF Seattle, educate members and prospective members on the benefits of joining, and encourage our membership base to get involved. Please contact Laura Jean Cronin, Membership Committee Chair, at minadog10@hotmail.com to volunteer on the committee.
Events
Special events are not only fun, they’re an integral part of member involvement; making the difference between an organization that’s really going someplace and one that’s just sitting there, garnering no press and no new members. WIF-Seattle is going somewhere! With your help on the Events Committee, we will only continue to have bigger and better events featuring celebrity visits, compelling speakers, more freebies, and great networking! If you want to catch a glimpse of yourself on the evening news as part of an event that gathered local press and got the town talking, or you just have a great talent for pulling events together, WIF-Seattle needs your help on the Events Committee for: all aspects of event planning, help locating venues, decorating, legwork on-site, etc. Contact Sue Corcoran to be a part of this exciting committee.
Nell Shipman Awards
The Nell Awards ceremonies, which have been such fabulous events over the years were crowned by the 2006 event. Honoring female film pioneer Nell Shipman, WIF/S bestows many awards: a scholarship in Nell’s honor, special achievement awards to female filmmakers, a Spirit of Nell, a Light of the Community award, and a Career Achievement award to a special guest celebrity, a notable woman in film who we honor for her lifetime achievement.
Seattle film glitterati were in full force at The W Hotel that evening in Oct. 2006. WIF/S plans another Nell Awards event for the coming year, 2009. The preparation for this highly visible, much anticipated ceremony is grand. It needs the talents of an event planner. To make this coming year’s NSAC the best yet, we need your generosity of time, creativity, and enthusiasm in the areas of: planning, research, set up, and on-site help at the event. To make this committee and event work, we need at least 12 volunteers. To learn about the Nells and the work involved as a Chair and Committee Member, please contact Shannon at shannon@collaborativepictures.com or Virginia at virginia@laughingdogpictures.com.
PR/Marketing Committee
Women In Film - Seattle has an immediate position available for a qualified current member to Chair the organization’s PR/Marketing Committee. The experienced candidate must have a self-motivated spirit, the ability to get WIF-Seattle media and print coverage, communicate the organization’s work & activities to the general public, come up with innovative & exciting marketing/promotional ideas for the organization and upcoming events (including writing press releases, direct mailings, creating flyers/posters/postcards, etc.).
If this sounds like you, please contact us at: virginia@laughingdogpictures.com with “PR/Marketing Candidate” in the subject line of your email. We look forward to hearing from you!
Production Committee Chair/PSA
A traditional Women in Film mission has been the annual production of a PSA for a non-profit organization who serves the public. This organization can be local or national and does not need to be female cause oriented. WIF/S has reinstituted this practice under the leadership of Production Chair, Rebecca Van Pelt who acts as executive producer of the PSA and the program organizer. In Spring 2008 WIF proudly produced a PSA for The Moyer Foundation for national broadcast. For more information about the PSA Project and other WIF production please get in touch with rebecca@pravdastudios.com and search our site for details.
